Christmas message from DaoudBethlehem, December 22, 2024 Dear friends,
Greetings from Bethlehem Over two thousand years ago, at the time of Jesus’ birth, the people of Palestine were living under occupation. Today our situation is painfully similar. We continue to endure hopelessness, frustration and fear – much like the shepherds before they encountered the LIGHT. The angel of the Lord said to them: “Do not be afraid! I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all the people.” They waited for the promise, for this transformative moment that would change their lives forever. As the prophet Isaiah reminds us, “Those who wait on the Lord receive new strength. They take wings like eagles. They run and do not grow weary, they walk and do not grow tired. “As the light penetrated their deep darkness, their strength was renewed. The angel’s message freed them from their fears and filled them with purpose. They acted: They walked, they saw, and they shared the message of hope and peace. At the end of this year, we end 34 years of tireless legal battle to prevent the seizure of our family farm. Through faith and perseverance, we continue to believe that justice will prevail. We have chosen the “fourth way” – a creative, non-violent and constructive path of resistance. Even in the midst of pain and adversity, we remain steadfast in transforming hopelessness and frustration into meaningful action and strive to make a lasting difference.the Christmas message is clearer today than ever: we must open our eyes and hearts to meet the light. Even with hearts burdened by pain, we can still celebrate the enduring message of hope and love that Jesus brought to the world. As it says in Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take your stony heart out of you and give you a heart of flesh. “We pray that God will renew our strength and yours for the coming year and give us the strength to persevere and work together for justice. May we continue to be witnesses of light for all people as our journey for peace and justice continues – anchored in faith, love and hope. This is our sumud (our steadfastness).
Blessings and Salaam,Daoud Nassar & Family
